Mournlands - Players Wanted! Ice Games Schedule, Recording Guide and More!
Hi everyone! All sorts of big news today:
DDOcast on the Zune Marketplace!
Mournlands - Players Wanted!
Huge news today from QA head Couatl. Turbine is opening the secret doors of Mournlands to more players! This is the first time in Turbine's DDO history that they've publicly announced an application process for this "secret server" where people check out content early and give important feedback. We've had interviews with Couatl and in the past Silthe in regards to what Mournlands is, but here's the word from Couatl today, posted on the DDO.com boards HERE:
The Mournlands Private Preview Program is now accepting new applications!
What Mournlands is:
Much like a Beta Program, the Mournlands Program is specifically focused on previewing and testing content that is scheduled to be released in future updates of DDO Unlimited! Run by members of the DDO Quality Assurance (QA) Team, this program invites real players like you to come onto our private server and help us give this content a good first look by non-Turbine eyes. Your participation can help us iron out gameplay kinks (and even find bugs), helping us create a more polished and enjoyable game experience for all.
Mournlands is an excellent place for early feedback on upcoming content. Why do you think it's fun? Why isn't it fun? Do you think it enhances the game? Breaks it? All your feedback will be read and compiled to be considered while the content is still in development with the goal of making the game the most optimal for Live release.
Remember, Mournlands is not the same as the public preview server Lamannia! Mournlands is an invitation-only server and participants must abide by a Non-Disclosure Agreement.
Things to Consider Before Applying:
Spare time - Participation in the Private Preview Program should enhance your DDO experience, not replace it. If real life obligations or hobbies take up the majority of your spare time, the Private Preview Program may not be right for you.
Providing Feedback – Do you get a sense of accomplishment by reporting bugs or participating in forum feedback? Even if the suggestions you make or the feedback you give is not directly acted upon or implemented, you should be able to feel you have contributed just the same.
Interaction - Do you enjoy posting to the forums and having active discussions with your fellow players? Forum posting is a huge part of Mournlands. If you are uncomfortable posting to forums, again the Private Preview Program may not be right for you.
For more tips on what participation in the program is like, check out DDOCast’s podcast interview with members our QA team!

Huge! Good luck to all who apply.
Risia Ice Games Schedule:
So, the Risia Ice Games are apparently Thursday through Sunday only. Count me surprised! Apparently, the schedule of the Ice Games was mentioned in the official DDO Newsletter, but not on the original forum announcement, which is why I didn't have it for last weekend's show...hmm.
+20% Loot Ends on Thursday:
DDO's Tarrant has mentioned that the bonus xp week will end on Thursday. He also mentioned on the boards that the bonus will not be around in time for the fix to True Reincarnation.
Also, Tarrant has mentioned that the fix to Casual favor bugs (in which you permanently lost favor if you ran a Casual quest on the first day of Update 3) is being worked on:
We're not ready to put out a date for the patch, but both of those issues will be fixed. Unfortunately, players will need to re-run the quests they lost favor for. Sorry!
Epic Menechtarun Items:
Lead Developer Eladrin has mentioned something quite interesting about the future of Epic loot in the Menechtarun desert:
I'm planning to have a review of the epic desert items done in the future.
The armor should have a +6 enhancement bonus on them, and the Stonemeld plate should have a little something else as well. (That I think was guessed in one of the posts. A thematically appropriate guard effect.)
Community Spotlight: Parvo!
Parvo gets the Turbine DDO Community Spotlight this week, well deserved. He even manages to sneak it a joke aimed directly at me!

Jerry's Guide To Recording A Podcast Segment:
This is one of those things that has LONG been in the works, finally done to the point that I'm ready to publish it! I have had countless requests for help from folks interested in putting together a segment for the show, but not sure where to start due to a lack of audio editing and recording experience. In the past, I've done a one-on-one tutorial for segment folks, but that's tough and takes a lot of my time. I've now put together what I hope to be a helpful guide to getting started - use this to record a segment for DDOcast and send it to me!
Here's a LINK to the guide in .pdf format. Feel free to re-distribute as you wish.
The Undeath Chronicles:
Devill from Sarlona has undertaken a really interesting and cool video effort, which I will be featuring on DDOcast. It's in-game video with text added to tell a story about his characters and friends' characters. Called "The Undeath Chronicles", this is a really unique method of storytelling that I think you will enjoy:
DDOcast on the Zune Marketplace!
Okay, so I don't own a Zune, not have I spent much time on the Zune Marketplace. I had thought that someone had already added DDOcast to the show on my behalf, but I just got an email today from the Zune folks letting me know that the show is now on the Marketplace, and a link to where to find it. So, here's the link:

Jerry et Co:
As some of you know, I don't play DDO, but DFO. Regardless, I enjoy listening to the ddocast. This cast in particular was great. As an mmo-ologist, I love to hear critical thinking/analysis on any game (to include boardgames

I wanted to add, that Rowanheal (sp?) smashed the nail on the head when discussing the learning curve concept, which pervades ALL games. Yak and I discussed this issue regarding the 'dumbing down' of Vanguard Saga of Heroes.
