Europe Update, Press Links

Hi everyone!

Europe Update:

Two things from Codemasters over at DDO Europe.  First up, word today from DNote about the current status of Mod 10, Mod 11, Festivult and the general state of things:

The current (and previous) build in QA has failed testing, thus preventing us from going live with it this week as previously planned.

We are expecting a new build through tomorrow which should resolve these problems, though we will need to run a full testing cycle to ensure that there are no further problems with it, which will take some time to complete.

If all goes well we should be able to go live with Path of Inspiration, Dreaming Dark and the Festivult on Monday 21st December, 2009. We are pulling out all the stops to try and do this, double shifts, weekend work the lot. However with it being close to Christmas if issues are found, we will have no option but to delay until January, as we cannot guarantee support over the holiday period.

Very unfortunate, but glad they will be getting everything at once when their problems are solved.  Here's hoping they get it out in December, since they are waaay behind the folks on the U.S. servers...also, you may recall from last week's show that there's been an effort to get Codemasters to open up a bit on the state of things.  This week Satine issued a pretty noninformative but appreciated post about what's going on:

Thanks for your post Bran and apologies for the late (public) response. I've been working with the powers that be to formulate a response to your well-presented questions and concerns.

Accordingly, let me address the three parts of your post:

1) Population & Merge. There were several questions and concerns raised within this point. First, we recognize there may be some adventuring benefits to merging the servers and we are constantly looking at ways that we can improve the gaming experience. At this time however, we do not have plans to merge servers. Regarding the second part of the point, Codemasters remains fully committed to supporting DDO Europe and bringing you a first class game.

2) DDO Unlimited and the EU. Obviously, the question on everybody's mind is if and when Unlimited will come to Europe. Unfortunately, I can't provide any further clarity at this time. I know this is frustrating to many of you. Codemasters and Turbine are well aware of this and hopefully I'll be able to provide some answers soon. I am not at liberty, however, to comment on any legal goings on.

3) Character Transfers. As per above, we remain fully committed to supporting DDO Europe and accordingly don't foresee any need for character transfers. Should there come a time when circumstances change, I am confident that we would do everything possible to maintain continuity and player experience.

In conclusion, I know that I wasn't able to give you full answers to your questions. But hopefully this helps. The posts and concerns of the DDO community are important to Codemasters and Turbine and we truly appreciate your continued patience and patronage.

Some European players have interpreted answer #3 as being a sign that Codemasters would transfer characters to the U.S. servers if the future ended in Europe, but I don't personally see it that way.  Seems to me that Codemasters is doing "everything possible" in their eyes already, and not promising to make the transfers happen.  But still, interesting news.

Finally, two links over to Massively.com.  First up, here's a LINK to the final "Choose My Adventure" writeup by Shawn Shuster as his time with DDO in the regular gathering comes to an end.  Also, Massively.com has a nice preview of Update Two: The Dreaming Dark.  Here's a LINK to it.

Also, just a reminder that I am taking voice mails for the show!  You can leave one for us at Snapvine.com/DDOcast.  So far I have just one voice mail.  If there isn't much interest in it, I won't pressure anybody, just thought there might be interest in leaving voice mails for the show.  So, don't be afraid!  We don't bite much.  Tell us what's on your mind!
