'Twas the night before patch day! Download it now!

Whew!  Another busy week in DDO!

First off, tomorrow (Wednesday, January 30th) will be the release date for Module 6: The Thirteenth Eclipse.  Yeah!  Here's a LINK to the First Look Release Notes on the ddo.com forums.  That link will give you a nice overview of what's in store.  Here's the note from Quarion:

All DDO worlds (except Risia) will be offline, Wednesday, January 30th, between 6am and 12pm Eastern time, to publish the new Module: The Thirteenth Eclipse.

However, this Mod is featuring a nice new change from Turbine - you can "pre-patch" the game now!  Basically, how it works is that you download the patch, run the .exe program you've just downloaded, and then wait.  What happens is the game will be "pre-patched" to mod 6, so when it comes time to update the game, the game launcher will simply install the new stuff rather than download it.  Saves time, helps ease out the bandwidth crunch.  You can download this now!  Here's a LINK to more information about it.  I've just given it a go and everything worked fine.

The press crunch continues ahead of Mod 6!  Yeah, Turbine's done a nice job getting the word out about this release.   First up is a new look at Mod 6 by the fine folks at Warcry.com.  I didn't notice much in the way of new information from the Warcry folks, but it's a nice and relatively-spoiler-free article about what's in store.  Probably the most interesting bit is this quote:

"Module 6 is the best so far and Turbine doesn't have any plans on stopping there with Monks coming in Module 7 and the mysterious Module 6.1 coming for the 2nd anniversary. I did hear a rumor that makes it a good idea to have your subscriptions active for Module 6.1." - Tim Turner, Warcry.com

But that's not all!  The cool people at Ten Ton Hammer have also seen the new mod.  They also got some really interesting news from DDO Senior Producer Kate Paiz.  Here's a LINK to the article.  But I'll excerpt a few things here:

"Ten Ton Hammer: How has the response been to your efforts with PvP in the game, and what have you done – on the development side – to make sure everything feels correct?

Kate Paiz: We’re really happy with the system and we feel that its given us a chance to explore the solid D&D connections with that sort of system. We wanted to make sure that it was introduced in a way that was really true to the table top game and that players could engage with without breaking them out of the model that we’d already established for the game. We’re definitely planning on expanding it.

We’re dabbling in the system in Module Six and we’re also going to be working on it in Module Eight as well. We’re definitely hoping to fill out a PvP competition structure that’s a bit more robust and one that players can get a bit of prestige and notoriety from.

Ten Ton Hammer: The Monk will – for sure – be in Module Seven?

Paiz: Yes. It’s definitely going to be in Mod Seven.

Ten Ton Hammer: How are the Half-Orcs and the Half-Elves progressing?

Paiz: They’re coming along. *laughs* They’re not ready for release and we have a lot on our plate right now anyway. One of our big focuses is to complete the Player’s Handbook, so we’re doing the Monk first, then hitting level twenty, and then finishing up the Druids and the Half-Orcs."

The people at Ten Ton Hammer do a nice job, fer sure.  Congrats on the interview!

I'm going to leave you for tonight with a handful of screen shots I've taken of Mod 6 content while on Risia.  Looking forward to tomorrow - this is going to be an excellent time to play DDO.
