A New Splash Screen, A New Look At Mod 6

Hi everyone!  This week continues the rollout of publicity for the upcoming Mod 6, most likely set to be released on January 30th (that's next Wednesday).

First up is a cool new look at the Mod 6 raid by the video game web site Joystiq.com-created web blog massively.com, which looks at all sorts of MMO's.  Here's a LINK to the article, which also includes tons of screen shots from the raid.  And a sneak peek at some pretty cool items that can be created with the upcoming Eldritch Device....NOTE: The article contains some pretty major spoilers about Mod 6, so be careful if you don't want to know much about the release.

Not a ton of new news in the article, but a few things:

- DDO Senior Producer Kate Paiz says solo options for high-level content is "a possibility" in the future.

- The spell Earthquake was pulled from the Mod 6 release because, "...we just couldn't get the experience quite right. But we hope to bring it back in future modules." - Kate Paiz

- Here's a quote from the article, written my Massively's Mike Schramm, attributed to Kate Paiz again:  "...Kate expects them (ed. note - DDO) to hit level 20 by the end of the year, and Module 8 will continue the story of the pit fiend found in Module 6, as players will head to Shavarath themselves to fight devils, demons, and archons. I asked what they could do after level 20 (since that's the maximum level in D&D's ruleset, and Turbine wants it to stay the max level in the game as well), and the devs had no shortage of ideas-- they want to touch on epic levels, prestige classes, and continue to pull addition content directly from Eberron. Apparently they've gotten a lot of pressure, even from Wizards of the Coast, to head off of Xendrik to the Mournlands and Khorvaire, but the team said that there is so much yet to do in Xendrik that they don't know how soon they'll be able to head there."

Pressure from Wotc to expand the setting out to Mournlands and Khorvaire?!?!?  Sounds like a good deal to me!  That would be great as well if we hit 20 by the end of the year...

Here's a new splash screen about Mod 6!  Yup, third one in a row:

Not bad, huh?  Of course the "Coming Soon" part led to a major controversy on the ddo.com forums as some people speculated that the change from "Coming in January" meant it wasn't going to be released this month.  I think it's just a minor grammatic change and has nothing to do with a delay.  I'll of course let you know as soon as we get an "official word" about the release date, but two recent DDO-related articles are both saying January 30th, so I think that's probably going to be the day.

I've been on Risia lately to check out the latest content and can tell ya - there's a ton to look forward to!  I've now run all five of the new non-raid quests.  I'll have some basically spoiler-free thoughts on them this weekend, and may even post up a screenshot or two...

Just a reminder that I'm still taking questions for the recently-announced Ask The Devs segment for DDOcast!  Send me an email at the link to the right if you'd like to submit something.  I've received dozens of questions already, which is fine - the more, the better!
